The word “Serendipity” did not come from the movie (though I do like it), but again from the definition, which reads “an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.” I do not recall where I first encountered it, but it was indeed a treasure of a word. How wonderful would it be if ones’ idiosyncrasy was serendipity!
As for who I am, that you will discover for yourself over time. But for a few stats, I’m a single girl, living in a Small College Town near the City of the Valley in the mid-south, though I’m from the Frozen North. Though I work at Small College, I am not an alum, I am an alum of Small Women’s College for undergrad and Mid-sized State University for my graduate degree. My passion and first love is dance: social (contra, English, square, swing, ballroom, etc), folk, and historic.
Coffee and tea make me happy, though I’m trying to kick my caffeine dependency just a little. I adore good quotes and bits of wisdom.
I read books like they give me life. I love movies with happy endings, and usually refuse to watch sad ones (on that note, do not watch “Boy in the Stripped Pajamas”, it’s heart-wrenching. I've always been fond of books. My parents tell me that when I was quite small, I used to "read" my books aloud by reciting the words they had read to me. Books are still magical, though I have moved beyond those particular books. I love going home in the evenings and pulling a favorite off the shelf to read, leaving my own world for a few hours and mentally becoming someone else in a different time and place, experiencing different things. Yes, movies have a similar purpose, but they take away the imagination needed to create portraits of people, the landscapes where events happen, and fill in details that aren't explicitly described, but help keep the story going.
I am asked what I did over the weekend, fairly often, and I never know exactly how to reply. Most weekends, I stay at home, watch movies, do chores, nothing exciting, with church on Sunday followed by lunch with a girl friend. The weekends I don't do that, I go back to Women's College Town for the monthly dances. It's nice, quite, and a routine that I enjoy. The problem is that I don't ever meet anyone new outside of work. I have a nice, happy routine.
I absolutely detest grammatical errors, especially with homophones, and lack of proper capitalization and punctuation. This is my biggest pet peeve.
